WREN HOUSES
Gourds make excellent houses because of their similarity to a natural nesting cavity. You will notice that there no perches on these houses – they are not needed, and only serve to help to predators if they existed. These houses start with a variety called a hardshell gourd. The skin is thicker than a traditional gourds and when dried, is almost like wood. Each gourd is dried and then the nesting hole is cut and drainage holes are drilled. A hangar is attached and then it is hand-painted. Finally, a coat of polyurethane is applied. The nest opening is 1” in diameter. Because these are real and natural gourds, the shapes of these houses vary wildly. They are typically 6-7” in diameter and 8-10” tall. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the exact size, shape or color of the gourd house you receive. At this time four gourd options are available.
